Job’s difficulty is that he has to operate on faith. He has no reason to trust that the divine actually has a positive regard for him, particularly when the troubles hit. But he continues to maintain a faith in the benevolence – ultimately – of the divine. Perhaps it is easy to seem faithful when things are going well. But when life hits all the bumps it can can you let go of your desire to make the world come out your way? The demand that your world fit your way is part of faithlessness. And it is the most difficult lesson I have yet to learn.
